Best Clean Dental Care Products | Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Floss + Mouthwash

Your oral care routine is something you do every single day, usually twice a day.
So just like the products we put on our skin or use around our homes, I think it’s worth paying attention to what we’re putting in our mouths, too.
From toothbrushes and toothpaste to floss and mouthwash, there are plenty of options to choose from. And you don't have to completely overhaul your routine overnight.
Here are some of my favorite dental care swaps and the things I look for when choosing them.
Toothbrushes
Let's start with the toothbrush.
Whether you prefer electric or manual, the most important thing is actually using it consistently and brushing effectively. Both manual and powered toothbrushes can be effective at removing plaque when used properly.
When I'm choosing a toothbrush, I also like to consider the materials, the bristles, and whether I'm comfortable with what I'm putting in my mouth every day.

Toothpaste
This is probably where people have the most questions.
There are SO many toothpaste options now, from traditional fluoride toothpaste to fluoride-free formulas, toothpaste powders, whitening formulas, and children's options.
What I Look For in Toothpaste
I personally look for formulas that avoid ingredients I don't want to use regularly, including:
- Artificial dyes
- Artificial flavors
- Ingredients I don't recognize or need
- Harsh foaming ingredients
- Unnecessary additives

- Wellnesse
- Fygg
- Himalaya
- Super Teeth
- Revitin
- Happy Tooth
- RiseWell
- Radius
- Redmond Life
- Jack N' Jill

For children, the amount of toothpaste matters, too. The ADA recommends a smear about the size of a grain of rice for children under 3 and a pea-sized amount for children ages 3–6, with supervision to help prevent swallowing.
Floss
Now let's talk about something I don't want you skipping: flossing.
Brushing cleans the surfaces of your teeth, but it doesn't completely clean between them. Interdental cleaning helps remove food and plaque from those harder-to-reach areas.
The ADA recommends cleaning between your teeth once a day with floss or another interdental cleaner.
One Thing I Look For: NON-TEFLON FLOSS
This is something I specifically wanted included because there are flosses on the market made with PTFE, the material commonly known by the brand name Teflon.
When I'm choosing floss, I prefer options that do not use PTFE/Teflon.
That doesn't mean you should skip flossing altogether if you don't have your preferred type on hand. Cleaning between your teeth is still important. But if you're shopping for a new floss, this is one material I personally look for and avoid.

Mouthwash
Mouthwash can be a useful addition to some people's oral-care routines, but it isn't a replacement for brushing and flossing. Certain therapeutic mouthwashes can help with things like plaque, gingivitis, bad breath, or cavity prevention depending on their active ingredients.
That said, you don't necessarily need mouthwash just because it's part of someone else's routine.
If you're someone who loves that extra fresh feeling, there are plenty of options to consider.
What I Look For in Mouthwash
I personally look for:
- Simple ingredient lists
- No artificial dyes
- Ingredients I feel comfortable using regularly
- Options without alcohol when that's my preference
- Formulas that don't leave my mouth feeling overly dry or irritated
And if you don't want to use mouthwash at all, that's okay, too. Brushing and cleaning between your teeth are still the foundation of your oral-care routine.
Oil pulling with coconut oil is another option some people incorporate into their routine.

My Dental Care Favorites
You don't need to replace everything in your bathroom overnight.
Start with the products you use every day.
Maybe that's your toothbrush. Maybe it's your toothpaste. Maybe you're finally going to start flossing consistently. Or maybe you want to find a mouthwash with a simpler ingredient list.
Small swaps can make your routine feel a lot more intentional.

Final Thoughts
Your oral health is about so much more than finding the “cleanest” toothpaste.
Brushing twice a day, cleaning between your teeth, using products that work for your individual needs, and keeping up with regular dental care all matter.
I also don't think you have to be perfect.
If you want to make some cleaner swaps, start with one product at a time.
Look at the ingredients.
Find alternatives that fit your preferences.
And most importantly, choose a routine you can actually stick with.
